Completing a Maverick Space Shuttle
Simulation requires the mission specialists to use the
application, Netscape. Netscape is a browser program that
displays web pages. The toolbar contains basic Netscape
tools. Most stations do not require the use of the toolbar.
However, if the mission specialist proceeds too far in the
mission, the Back button can be used to return to the
previous page, and the Home button can be used to return to
the start page. When the mission specialist opens
Netscape, the Station Start Page will automatically appear.
In case of a shuttle crash or an emergency landing, the
shuttle specialist may need to use the Bookmark menu to
select Landing. The Flight Director or Commander will
instruct mission specialists when to perform an emergency
landing. The Application Menu is located in the
upper right of the screen. Mission specialists use this menu
to switch easily from one open program to another. Stations
that require the use of NIH Image, use the Application
Menu. Completing a mission simulation requires
each mission specialist to navigate through provided web
pages and sites using the browser, Netscape Navigator. There
are three ways to progress through the stations: by clicking
on text, by clicking on images, and by allowing the page to
refresh automatically. All stations require the mission
specialist to click on text to advance. The clickable text
is underlined and in color. Most stations provide
directions, in either the training manual, mission script,
or on the screen, about what text to click. Text links will look like
this. All stations require the mission
specialist to click on images to advance. Many clickable
images have a blue border around them. If the image does not
have a blue border but it is clickable, a hand will appear
as the mouse is moved over the image. Several, but not all stations, have
screens that automatically refresh. These screens are timed
according to the station and will advance to the next screen
automatically.
