T
OPEN RESPONSE:
41. In the evaluation process we are including
different ways of demonstrating student
learning within the context of individual classrooms.
Are there any particular strategies that you use within your own
class that might be of interest to us in documenting student
learning? ( such as portfolios, student projects, role playing,
etc.).
Participant #1
I do seminars each month with 3-6 th graders. We have a seminar
called creative creatures. This year I am having a local artist teach
the students. It would be interesting to see how students from
Teachers Community Discovered Project reach to students who who are
not in the project.
Participant#2

Participant #3
I am currently using the Apple Early Language connection in
my classroom.
Participant #4
The new district science curriculum has students working in
cooperative groups using an inquiry approach to learning. They
commonly use the scientific method to using as the problem solving
tool. they are required to maintain data, collect and base their
conclusions. They then share their finding with other class
groups.
Participant #5
Hyperstudio projects, battle re-enactments, role playing, cooperative
learning.
Participant #6
At present we have a team of students who are writing a web page
using html. It has been a wonderful learning and confusing time!

Use now portfolios and journals for evaluation. Students use hands on
as a tool for learning they work together and solve problems as well
as do peer teaching.
Participant #22
Projects of many types.
Participant #23
I try to use a variety of techniques to access my students by
projects, oral presentations, portfolios including written work, and
group work.
Participant #24

#42 To help facilitate project success, the community Discovered
Project would also know your professional expectations for the
project. In general, how do you hope to benefit from your
participation in the project?
Participant #1
To improve the way I teach students. To help students reach their
full potential through their learning style. Also to help staff
improve their teaching.
Participant#2
I hope to find worthwhile resources on the www to pass on to students
to use. I believe technology will be a wonderful teaching tool in all
subjects.
Participant #3
I hope to be able to use the internet to get specific information I
need to enhance my total curriculum.
Participant #4
As a part-time district technology facilitator, I want to be able to
continue the process of integrating technology into the classroom. As
more applications of the computer as an educational tool, more
teachers will come aboard and place its usefulness into the hands of
their students. My involvement in Community Discovered project will
definitely assist me in my quest to make more resources available to
teachers and students alike!
Participant #5
Increase passing resources to students for research. Increase
knowledge of art integration. More experience with internet.
Participant #6
My building is being renovated and I anticipate more computers in my
classroom. I hope to know more about how to successfully utilize this
new technology with my whole class!
Participant #7

Professionally I hope to become a better "integration"
teacher- I hope to look for links for all types of learning for my
students!
Participant #19
I hope to gain knowledge in the use of computers for
research, and I hope to obtain a useable means of applying art and
technology to my curriculum areas already in force. A resource of
ideas would also be great to have.
Participant #20
Working with other professionals to find ways to
successfully integrate technology throughout existing curriculum to
increase student learning.
Participant #21
... to better integrate technology into my curricula,
lessons and objectives.

Participant #23
I hope that I can incorporate Internet in all my subjects. I want to
create a visual link to their studies.
Participant #24
Design lessons that will incorporate the Internet as a part of
research component.
OVERVIEW:
All of the participants have access to internet in
their school and the use of Macintosh computers; 2/3 of these have
Internet access in the classroom. Most of the schools have a
technology coordinator. Almost all of the participants have had basic
ESU training; few have had much more. Although having just basic
training, only one participant reports never using technology and
most use technology often. Electronic mail, telnet and world wide web
are the applications of choice.
All of the participants feel technology and Internet play a role in
their discipline and students should have access whenever possible,
only about 25 percent, however, report regular student use of
Internet. The participants are innovative in the use of cooperative
learning, computer, research projects and library resources. They
score low, however, in the incorporation of Art in their instruction
and giving students Art related instruction in any classroom.
