Are there any particular strategies that you use within your own class that might be of interest to us in documenting student learning? ( such as portfolios, student projects, role playing, etc.).

Participant #1

I do seminars each month with 3-6 th graders. We have a seminar called creative creatures. This year I am having a local artist teach the students. It would be interesting to see how students from Teachers Community Discovered Project reach to students who who are not in the project.

Participant#2

No Comments given.

Participant #3

I am currently using the Apple Early Language connection in my classroom.

Participant #4

The new district science curriculum has students working in cooperative groups using an inquiry approach to learning. They commonly use the scientific method to using as the problem solving tool. they are required to maintain data, collect and base their conclusions. They then share their finding with other class groups.

Participant #5

Hyperstudio projects, battle re-enactments, role playing, cooperative learning.

Participant #6

At present we have a team of students who are writing a web page using html. It has been a wonderful learning and confusing time!

Participant #24

Design lessons that will incorporate the Internet as a part of research component.

OVERVIEW:

All of the participants have access to internet in their school and the use of Macintosh computers; 2/3 of these have Internet access in the classroom. Most of the schools have a technology coordinator. Almost all of the participants have had basic ESU training; few have had much more. Although having just basic training, only one participant reports never using technology and most use technology often. Electronic mail, telnet and world wide web are the applications of choice.

All of the participants feel technology and Internet play a role in their discipline and students should have access whenever possible, only about 25 percent, however, report regular student use of Internet. The participants are innovative in the use of cooperative learning, computer, research projects and library resources. They score low, however, in the incorporation of Art in their instruction and giving students Art related instruction in any classroom.
