Select the map, poster or image of choice. First, we'll draw N-S lines through each of the first two locations, Santa Barbara and San Buenaventura. These 'green' lines will allow us to find the 'x' or horizontal distance between the two locations. In this example, the 'x' distance is represented by the 'red' line. Use the same map as in the 'ruler' example where the scale is 20 miles = 2 cm. The horizontal or 'x' distance is about 2.3 cm. |

Now, we'll draw in horizontal lines through the two locations. They are represented by the yellow lines in the image. From Santa Barbara south to the E-W line extended through San Buenaventua is about 1.0 cm on the map. This is indicated by the blue line. We'll do the same for the other locations as necessary. |
