 Now, use DataSlate to find the vectors. Use the tools to find distance and bearing from one Mission to the other. Also, measure the optional routes the boy could take during his rescue 'mission'. Will he travel straight over the Santa Ynes Mountains and pass by Lake Cachuma on the way to Santa Ines Mission? Will he travel along the beach and double back in the Santa Ines River valley after passing the end of the mountain chain? Will he travel along the beach and then cross over the mountains along what is now Refugio Road? Remember that we know the distance and bearing from San Buenaventura to Santa Barbara from prior calculations. We may use this information as a scale for further calculations. Santa Barbara Mission is located in the lower center in the map image, Santa Ines Mission is in the upper left and Refugio Road wanders northerly from Refugio State Beach toward the Santa Ines Mission.
