Week 8 Image of the Week - Historical Agriculture

The activity this week is to look at historical images of towns and try to understand, by looking at aerial photographs, how agriculture has changed over the years. The questions and the external web sites below will help guide you. Choose two areas and make comparisons.

When you are finished with this activity please go to the 'Discussion Board' of the America's Farm Class and comment on the activity. You can use some answers to the questions below as discussion starters or develop your own strand of discussion by posing additional questions and suggesting answers.
These images were collected at various times since the 1930's. What time of year were they taken? (Spring, Summer...)

How do you identify farm fields?

How do you recognize topographic features (land forms)?

Comment on how different objects appear ... cities, bodies of water, fields (shape, elevations...)

Locate your school or a landmark you recognize. Can you think of a way to make a grid or utilize x-y coordinates for finding locations if your browser does not include that feature?
