Subject: Lesson submission form

 [Remove]

I finally have my webquest posted and listed in the lesson database. I have to admit, the lesson submission form was a little intimidating, but once I was able to locate the standards, it wasn't so bad.

I'm looking forward to receiving some feedback on the webquest. I'm not sure the mouse rollovers will work--we're still trying to resolve that issue. I've also posted the webquest on our school web server so the graphics work as they should.

Subject: NETA Conference--FYI

 [Remove]

Bernie Dodge is one of the featured speakers at the NETA conference that will be held in Omaha on April 26 & 27. He will be speaking at the 8:30 - 9:45 opening session on Thursday on Active Engagement with the WebQuest Model. What a neat follow-up to our efforts in this class!

The NETA web site is http:/neta.lps.org

It may be too late to pre-register, but I do believe they will take on-site registrations.

I'll bet that they will take your registration.
Yes, it will be especially fun for you 'WebQuest' veterans to be at the session with Bernie Dodge. You can probably offer him sime tips!

This is a neat conference I've never been able to get release time to go. The tech specialst(Head person) ONLY lets her media spacialists attend. The rest of us can't because there might not be enough subs!!!Just like I asked to attend the regional Math Conference last fall , (MIND you I was paying for everything) but wasn't allowed to go.My district has too many specialists and not enough ground troops able to go to anything unless it's on a weekend or in the summer.AND of course you pay your own way.

I think I should retire and go teach in Omaha, so I could get my retiremnet & a salary from Omaha.(It's the only place NOT in the state retirement system, so it's legal to do this !!!!

I keep wondering about up loads. I need to move the farm folders off to a special folder because it causes problems in my general documents folder.I have too many general documents and haven't cleaned house yet.Usually do this in the summer time.

My frustrations can get to me when things should upload and don't.Sometimes I am lucky that help is on email when I need to ask a question. xxxxxx has been nice about this help.Thanks.
Instructors should call yourselves "FARMING coaches", just as any sport would need,.

The teacher submission form is definitely a humble experience. ALso, the communication with trying to get the web quest stuff up and going. Seems like it is a never ending job with future ideas of improvement keep popping up as you work on it wherever they will be. Am interested in working on them on the site if that is possible. However, I learned a lot already and since it is never ending. Seems like Uncle Sam must have been working with the course instructor since they have the same deadline. Yeah right! Anything for humor at this late time of the course. Want to work on this with school kids with developing web quest stuff. However, learning with the students is comfortable or not depending on the teacher. Learn as they learn is OK with this end. Thanks again in advance for this opportunity. NSTA was a great experience. Need to check in with this Bernie Dodge thing since it would be fantastic going to this after all this stuff.

xxxxxxx, This is not the end. You still have a couple of weeks left. We are just having a peer review to see if a peer sees something that you missed. There will be about 3 weeks of work time left for final tweaking. Anyway you are right about humbling. It definitely can be that. We are glad that you are learning and enjoy learning.

Yeah!! It is great to be to this point!
I do have 3 questions, if anyone can help me out.
1. I tried to do a transparent background to a couple of my animated pictures, but when I did, the animation was removed. So I opted to keep the white background and, therefore, the animation. I think it looks o.k, but there may be a way around it.
2. The teacher page resource section indicated you could list seven resources, but when I did, the last one was truncated when I edited, and went to the actual page. Did anyone else notice this? In other words, you could really only list six resources.
3. As you will notice, I have used frames for my webquest. However, I would like for the picture to take over the entire window when the user clicks on a link. Any suggestions?

xxxxxxxx,
I don't know the answer to the first two questions. I suspect that when you make the background transparent you will loose the animation. Not sure but that seems logical to me. I think that the max resources is 6. If you want to include more put the same 6 and any others in the acutal project. If someone is intrigued they will end up in the project anyway. As for the new window. I can fix that...in claris in the link editor if you get all the options displayed ( this can be done by clicking the down triangle in the bottom of the link editor) you will get a box that is labeled target frame. In that box type _blank This opens a new window.

The code will look like this

<A HREF="
http://ois.unomaha.edu/amfarm/sp01proj.htm" TARGET="_blank"><B>Spring 2001 Project Pages</B>

This was for another page called spring project page and it's URL The TARGET="_blank" is what you want.
Hope this helps if not let me know.
xxxxxxx

Subject: Animated Gifs

You have to edit the animated gifs in a software package for creating gifs. If you are using a mac, here is a site where you can download an Animated Gif program that is free. It's a little tougher to find an animated gif program for Windows--Front Page has a gif program that ships with it called Microsoft Image Composer--Microsoft Gif Animator. I don't know if you can download that from the Microsoft site.

Subject: Questions

 [Remove]

I think I am finally caught up with the discussions! I may be too late to ask this question -- I don't know if anyone still reads past weeks -- but I'll give it a try. I teach in Iowa and Iowa did not adopt any State Standards. I chose to use required district outcomes and language arts benchmarks on my teacher page -- I figure that makes it most usable for my classes. I hope that meets the requirements. Let me know if it doesn't, and I will use Nebraska standards.

xxxxxx,
I have not looked specifically at what you did but I would assume that it is ok. We (those of us from NE) know that you Iowans have no "standards" :) and you are probably better off because of it. I am quite glad that Iowa has not bought into the standards movement the way everyone else has. Time will tell if it was the right thing to do. I understand that you do alot with the AEA in lieu of state standards. This seems more reasonable to me.
